Description:
Vardenafil (INN) is a PDE5 inhibitor used for treating erectile dysfunction. Vardenafil's indications and contra-indications are the same as with other PDE5 inhibitors; it is closely related in function to Sildenafil citrate (Viagra) and Tadalafil (Cialis). The difference between the Vardenafil molecule and Sildenafil citrate is that a nitrogen atom has different position and the change of Sildenafil's piperazine ring methyl group to an ethyl group. Tadalafil is structurally different from both Sildenafil and Vardenafil. Vardenafil's relatively short effective time is comparable to but somewhat longer than Sildenafil's.
Beyond its indications for erectile dysfunction, vardenafil may be effective in the treatment of premature ejaculation, where it may significantly increase the time from vaginal penetration to ejaculation.
Vardenafil, as with all PDE5 inhibitors, should not be used by men taking nitrate medications, because combining them with Vardenafil might provoke potentially life-threatening hypotension (low blood pressure).
Besides, Vardenafil lengthens QT interval. Therefore it should not be taken by men taking other medications that affect the QT interval (such as Amiodarone).

Applications:

Side Effects:
The common side effects are usually mild and last a few hours, and may include facial flushing, an upset stomach, and headaches. Less common side effects are blurred vision, or perceiving a bluish tint in one's vision, and sensitivity to light. Levitra has shown additional common and usually mild side effects, including dizziness and nasal congestion.
Most side effects experienced from taking these drugs are temporary. Clinical studies have revealed that the frequency of these side effects decreases over time. However, a rare side effect, vision loss, has been reported with people who have used PDE5 inhibitors, including Viagra, Levitra, and Cialis. This loss of vision could be permanent and thus any vision-related side effects require an immediate visit to a doctor or medical facility. There is no evidence as yet that PDE5 inhibitors are the direct cause of vision loss.
